Five Minute Friday, The First

Five Minute Friday Lisa-Jo Baker hosts an even called “5 minute friday” She gives a one word prompt and you write for 5 minutes with no extreme editing or overthinking. Then everyone puts links up at her blog to their posts about the word… This is my first time doing it, so it could be interesting! And if you need any kind of encouragement in life, go read her blog! It’s fantastic!

Today’s word is: Quiet

I used to fear the quiet. I filled silence with babbling. Internally most of the time, for everyone else to hear other times. If you keep making noise, if you keep moving, if you keep doing something, the quiet can’t catch you. If the quiet catches you, you can’t escape. It’s in the quiet that Truth comes. Love comes. Acceptance. He comes not in the thunder or the earthquake or the raging winds, but in a whisper. You can do and be and strive and accomplish in the noise, but in the quiet, you simply are. Laid bare and true. That quiet is scary, absolutely terrifying. Until you embrace it. Every time I experience it I struggle against it at first. The quiet signals He is near. He is my Father and I am His Daughter and I have been treating His daughter with contempt. I have been believing the lies about her, questioning His plans for her, doubting He has anything for this sad, pathetic, failure of a lump to accomplish. Wondering if he made a mistake in creating me. In the quiet comes His truth. His correction. His love. His healing. His arms of comfort and a super size dose of strength, courage, trust and belief.

In the quiet He is more than enough.

I fear the quiet no more.

hey neighbor! I agree. I am also one that fills the noise. It always seems uncomfortable. Always with music, phone calls, chatter etc. Praying you find some true quiet this weekend.:)

Wow Lindsey… You’ve done it again! And, since your writing is always filled with such emotion, I was welling up with tears before I got through the first sentence! Maybe I just needed a reason to cry. Nevertheless, thank you! :-)
